The book is now available in the Nomos Publishing House available in the series "Studies on Parliamentarism". In this monograph, the IParl team presents the results of their Candidate nomination project. This research project has accompanied the IParl since its foundation and culminates in the new publication:
In a parliamentary democracy, the existence of the political order stands and falls with the fulfilment of parliamentary functions; and specifically, it is the members of parliament who have to do this. It depends on them whether there is sufficient expertise in parliament to help steer or control policy; they must ensure a lively connection to society, struggle for appropriate solutions and find compromises. The selection of candidates for parliamentary mandates is therefore of the utmost importance.
In 13 chapters, the authors explore the question of who chooses whom, how and why to run for the German Bundestag. The IParl podcast "Zwischenruf" dedicates a podcast series to the chapters of the book, in which they examine the content together with the authors.
