Kick-off: SW&D celebrates anniversary

Celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Science and Democracy Foundation

24 October this year would have been the 85th birthday of founder Eberhard Schütt-Wetschky - the perfect time for the Science & Democracy Foundation, which he founded, to celebrate the foundation's 30th anniversary with employees, long-time companions and friends of the foundation!

We met at the Hotel Kieler Yachtclub to celebrate the start of the anniversary year in a festive atmosphere.
In keeping with the scientific tradition of the foundation, the afternoon Dr Jochen Bittner from DIE ZEIT guided the 100 or so guests through discussions with high-calibre representatives from academia and political practice.
This is how Prof Dr Joachim Krause (Foundation for Science & Democracy, ISPK), Prof Dr Jens Hacke (University of the Federal Armed Forces Munich) and Gyde Jensen (Member of the Bundestag, FDP) to the question "How do democracies create external peace?". Afterwards they discussed Prof Dr Suzanne S. Schüttemeyer (IParl), Prof Dr Wolfgang Zeh (former Director of the German Bundestag), Prof Dr Wilhelm Knelangen (Institute for Social Sciences at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel) and Dr Ernst Dieter Rossmann (former Member of the Bundestag, SPD) on the question "How do parliaments create inner peace?".

In the evening Schleswig-Holstein's Education Minister Karin Prien (Minister for General and Vocational Education, Science, Research and Culture of the State of Schleswig-Holstein) and Lord Mayor of Kiel Dr Ulf Kämpfer (City of Kiel) congratulated the Executive Board, Advisory Board and employees of the Foundation.

A successful start to the Foundation's anniversary year - stay tuned to see what else this year has to offer!
