Prof. Dr Gabriele Abels has been Professor of Comparative Politics and European Integration at the Institute of Political Science at the University of Freiburg since 2007. Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen. Since 2011 she has held the Jean Monnet Chair ad personam. From 2012-2015, she was Chairwoman of the German Political Science Association (DVPW) and has been spokesperson for the European Centre for Research on Federalism (EZFF). She has also been an honorary judge at the Constitutional Court of the state of Baden-Württemberg since 2021.
She is a member of numerous advisory boards and was co-editor of the journal "Femina Politica" from 1997 to 2021; she is also a member of the jury for the German Bundestag Science Prize.
Her thematic focuses are Democratisation of the European Unionwhich Role of regions and parliaments in the multi-level system, Theories of European integration and Gender studies.
